Maitland DATE: June 9, 1994 Acting City Administrator FROM: LR. Zahynacz, P. Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: SHARING FOR ROAD REHABILITATION WESTMINSTER AVENUE AND CAMBRIDGE STREET (Public Works Committee Meeting of Tune 7, 1994) That Council authorize the City to cost-share with the GVWD in the restoration of the asphalt pavement on Westminster from Cambridge to Oxford at a City cost of $5,826 (including GST) and on Cambridge Avenue from the lane south of Westminster to the lane north of Suffolk at a City cost of $888 (including GST). That $6,714 be ailocated frorn the Special Works Capital Reserve Fund for this The GVWD has installed a new watermain on Cambridge Avenue between Dorset and Westminster and on Westminster Avenue between Cambridge and Oxford. The GVWD is now restoring pavement. Originally, Westminster had a shallow depth (approx. one inch) of oil gravel surface prior to construction. Using today’s standards, the Westminster Road Surface should have a depth of three inches of hot mix asphalt. The GVWD has agreed to reconstruct the base of Westminster and pave the equivalent of one inch of asphalt for the full width of Westminster provided that the City pay for the additional two inches of asphalt. This would cost the City $5,830 (including GST). As the road surface for Cambridge Avenue has a stronger pavement, there has been less damage during the watermain construction. It is estimated to cost $2,666 (including GST) to mill and overlay the road surface with one inch of asphalt for the full width of Cambridge between the jane south of Westminster to the lane north of Suffolk. It is recommended that the City contribute one third of the construction costs ($888) towards the reconstruction of Cambridge. City Enginee!
