SUBJECT: Kingsway Culvert Construction ~ Public Works Committee -
August 19, 1986

Recommendation:

That Council allocate an additional $15,000.00 out of future
capital reserve to complete the Kingsway Culvert to ultimate
standards.

Background and Comments:

When the Poco Place construction took place @ sum of $25,200.00
was received from the Developer to Improve the culvert across Kingsway
Avenue. This sum was generous at the time. However, the cost has
Increased due to Inflation whereas interest on the funds deposited by
the Developer has not been credited to that account.

We now have a detaliied cost estimate based on the design
drawing and find that the total cost Is expected to be about
$40,000.00. Part of this increase Is due to Inflation and part jis due
to a change fn the design concept which Is to build Proper concrete
headwall at the ends of the culvert to Support future road widening.

It fs our Intention to start construction during the week of
August 25, 1986 as the project must be completed before September 15,
1986. If the project Is to go ahead this year we will need [tmmediate
Council approval. We feel that construction should go ahead this year
because the existing culvert is an old wood culvert which Is rotting

and collapsing In places.
