From the Assistant City Engineer, August Z2nd, 1985 regarding a

resolution to the UBCM - Discharge of Chtorinated Water into
Watercourses,

That the following resolution regarding the discharge of chlorinated

water Into watercourses be forwarded to the U.B.C.M. as a jate
submission: .

WHEREAS it is a normal practice of many municipalities, with
chlorinated water supp!les, to carry out hydraulic flushing of
watermains to remove accumulated foreign substances and stagnant water;

AND WHEREAS the lethal limit, In terms of chlorine residual present
In the water, for some varieties of fish Is as low as 0.002 mg/1 which

Is In the order of one-hundredth the amount to which domestic water Is
normally chlorinated;

AND WHEREAS Section 33 of the Canada Fisheries Act forbids the
vo discharge of a deleterious substance into fish rearing watercourses;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the U.B.C.M.: advise member
municipalities, with chlorinated water supplies, to refrain from

7 discharging any water flushed from watermains directly Into fish rearing
