Your Worship Mayor Traboulay and Council Members Re: Sunday Shopping AS you are no doubt aware, holiday shepping bylaws have been approved in certain areas of the Province, most notibly in Coquitlam, and other Municipalities such as the City of Vancouver, are placing this matter before the electors during the forthcoming Municipal elec- tions in November. We, like most Retailers and businesses, are suffering from high interest rates and the fact that we have to close parts of our Store on Sundays, while our competitors in Coquitlam, such as K-Mart and Lumberland are able to sell items that we are not allowed to sell; usually at a higher price, I might add, does not help the | Situation. While we acknowledge that Sunday shopping was voted down ata previous referendum, we feel that a new referendum, now that the electorate has a true understanding of bill 56 and its consequen-— ces, will pass with a great majority for the following reasons. 1) Public opinion polls in Burnaby and North Vancouver indicated an overwhelming majority of the public wished Sunday opening and in fact, the actual vote bore the results out to a close degree.
