Janna Taylor, Recreation Director SUBJECT: Ice Rentals BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: - It is my understanding that Council wishes some further information on the proposed recommendation on ice rental rates. : Attached is a summary of the cost to each organization with, a) present rates, b) proposed new rates. As one can observe the revenue generated is similar. It is hoped that by giving a reduced non-prime time for 1982 for the minor organizations, that the organizations will be encouraged to take more non-prime time and, therefore, free up more prime time which can then be rented to commercial teams, which in turn will increase the revenue for the City. In past years the rates. have been increased in September; however, for September, 1982 the rates would remain as recommended in the. report to Council. There is a basic fact that should be considered by Council in setting rental rates and that is that demand decreases as price increases. Some may argue that anyone can afford @ small fee - the question is at what level does the small fee deprive even one individual from participating. I have attached a section of a report done by the District of Maple Ridge Parks & Recreation Department on a "policy of changing" and it might be appropriate for our Council to consider adopting a similar policy in the near future, Continued...
