Community Development Committee

The Committee met December 12th, 1978 with a representative of
B.C. Business Magazine. The Committee was informed that this publication
will be doing a feature article on Port Coquitlam in their February issue
and has asked the City to purchase an advertisement in this issue.

The Committee was given samples of previous publications which
from time to time have featured Coquitlam, Abbotsford/Matsqui, Maple Ridge,
etc. as well as many of the northern communities, The magazine is widely
circulated in B.C. and Alberta and has a circulation of sevcrai thousand
in Toronto and Montreal and is carried on 10 airlines. The publication
has, therefore, good coverage.

Some sample advertisements are attached, all being full page
ads, with various colour combinations optiotal. The Committee would
recommend that we participate in this advcctising. Although we have never
been involved in this type of advertisi:g before, the Committee feels that
it would be beneficial in this issue. There willbe many other local
industries advertising in the same issue.

The basic cost of the full page ad is $875. plus additional
charges of up to $500. where colour is involved. The total ad cost could
therefore run as high as $1,575. In addition, professional help with

the layout can be obtained for approximately $80. to $100. The Committee

felt that this would be «1 wise investment in order to obtain a professional

quality ad. The Committee would therefore like permission to spend up to
a maximum of $1,500. to advertise in this issue. The Committee will endeavour
to keep the cost as low as possible but would like to have enough funds to
ensure a good quality advertisement. The sum of $2,000. has been included

in the 1979 Provisional Budget for this Committee and funds are therefore

available.
