1349 Cartwright St., Granville Island Vancouver, B.C. V6H 3R7 (Gtk) 689-9623 Potters Guild of British Columbia “Mewsetfer— JANUARY 1593 ISSN 6319 412x The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, scheduled for January has been postponed until February 25, 1993. The decision to do so has been based upon the fact that it is impossible to have a year-end statement prepared by late January. In recent years, we have only been able to report in a very general fashion about the financial state of the Guild, and given that decisions have been made this fall which affect those members selling in the Gallery of BC Ceramics, it was felt that discussion would be more meaningful for everyone if year-end statements Were prepared in advance of the meeting. PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL REPORT The annual report provides an opportunity to review achievements. Despite difficult economic circumstances, we were able to sustain a vigorous program of activities. That being said, 1992 was a difficult year. The recession began to make serious inroads into our finances and threatened our ability to continue programs. The Board was obliged to tighten the rein on finances, and with great reluctance decided not to award our two annual scholarships in 1993. Sales in 1992 in the Gallery have shown an overall decrease from 199] of about 12%. Concern that this trend might continue into 1993 and jeopardize our ability to keep the Gallery open, obliged us to increase the commssion an Gallery sales to 50%, with the understanding that the Gallery would revert to the former 60/40 split when econamc conditions improve. I am pleased to report that December sales showed an improvement over December "31 of about 5%, and we may have turmed the corner. Thanks are due to the Gallery staff, and to the Gallery volunteers who assisted over the three months up until Christmas for their contributions. cont'd p 2 er ‘ KEEP 1A) TouCH With HE WoRLD | RENEW YeuR, GUILD MENBERSHP TeDAy WANS Jo you Enaly Bros! | oF Juves™ Pitchers, Dippers and Metaphors Entries are slow coming in; at the mament, there are only five in hand, and unless there are 25 by the end of January, we may be forced to cancel.
