Resolutions ??? A resolution is a main motion, introducing a new subject. It is written in a certain form because of its length or its importance, It is a proposition that something be done, or that something is the sense, opinion or wish of the assembly. A resolution begins with the words "RESOLVED, That ...." It may be preceded by a preamble which explains the reason for the resolution. Each reason in the preamble begins with the word Whereas," and ends with a semi-colon and "and," Neither the preamble nor the part after "Ree solved" may contain a period, Each paragraph ends with a semi-colon followed by "and" until the end. . If a preamble is used, the reasons stated there must be supported in the resolution. Pro- posed action may be definite, or it may "urge, recommend, pledge cooperation toward" etc. some- thing. Once a resolution has been adopted, unless it includes a time restriction the approved action remains binding on the organization permanently until it is rescinded, ' Members of CPF have two opportunities in coming months to direct the acticns of their organization. ‘ . Provincial Resolutions Resolutions for the Annual General Meeting of the B.C. Chapter (Sept. 27) must be presen- ted in writing to the Secretary (Margaret Donaldson, 3808 ¥. 26th Ave., Vancouver V6S 1P4) no later than August 16, 1980. Copies of all resolutions accepted by the provincial executive for consideration will be forwarded to all members prior to the meeting. All resolutions must be provincial in scope. They should be accompanied by background information setting out the rationale and giving supporting evidence. The mover or his/her designate may speak for a maximum of 5 minutes in presenting the resolution to the meeting, and may speak one additional time to rebut or sum up for a maximum of 2 minutes. All other members may speak once for 2 minutes each. Any resolution received after the designated deadline will be considered an emergency resolution. It must be presented in writing to the Secretary not later than noon September 25th. It must be accompanied by a rationale indicating the emergency nature of the resolution, and must be accepted by the executive for presentation at the meeting. National Resolutions Any member in the family membership class of CPF, the Board of Directors, or any provine cial or local chapter may present a resolution at the annual meeting of CPF (Nov. 8/80). Resolutions must be posted in writing to the Resolutions Chairman of CPF (Harvey Linnen, 70 Marsh Cres., Regina, Sask. S4S 5R6) no later than October 8. Delegates will receive copies no later than 2 weeks prior to the annual meeting. All resolutions for CPF must be national in scope, They should be accompanied by back= ground information setting out the rationale and providing supporting evidence. Zach resolu- tion must be duly moved and seconded by a CPF member. Rules for the debate are the same as for the B.C, meeting. An emergencyxnational resolution must be presented in writing to the Resolutions Commit= tee no later than noon on the first full day of the National Conference. It must be accom= panied by a rationale indicating the emergency nature of the resolution. The Resolutions Committee shall decide whether it will be accepted for presentation at the annual meeting.
