Traboulay Further to our conference with the Provincial Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Mr. Hugh Curtis, I have prepared the following resolution which if approved by Council should be submitted to the Taxation and Assessment Cabinet Committee, our local M.L.A., Mr. Kerster, to the Premier, Mr. Bennett, and to Mr. Curtis. "WHEREAS it is generally accepted that the property tax is a regressive form of taxation in that it tends to take a larger proportion of the income cf a poor person than of a wealthy person; AND WHEREAS there has been much dissatisfaction with the property taxes in 1978 due to many factors including changes in the assessed value of the property, no increase in the Home Owner Grant, increase in the tax payable; AND WHEREAS the Home Owner Grant is a good way to reduce the regressivity of the property taxes; BE _ IT THEREFORE NOW RESOLVED that this Council urge the Provincial Government to increase the Homeowner Grant in order to assist the property taxpayer in 1979."
