LOCAL SOCCER 1 players will have plenty ot competition this weekend as northwestern. | and Alaskan teams are coming to town for | the annual challange. It takes place at Christy Park an the Saturday and Sunday of Riverboat Days. Many sports of all sorts for Riverboat Days 2000 NOT ONLY will there be the usual slo-pitch tournament and stock car races at this year’s Ri- verboat Days festival. Look for some more offbeat, wacky events over the long weekend toa. Events like the dunk tank, tremendous tri- cycle trip, soap box derby, and wild and wet wheelbarrow race will provide some fun belween the ceremonies and parades. The Seniors games will benefit again from the annual Riverboat Days Mile - or Monte Cristo Challenge — walk from the legion to City Hall, at 10 a.m. Sunday. Proceeds from the event will go toward sending a strong delegation down to Kelowna for the games, which take place in September. Tennis will be one event missing from this year’s schedule. A B.C. Grand Prix event is tak- ing place in Kelowna on the weekend, which conflicts with Riverboat Days. Terrace’s own Ri- chard Krieg! will be there. Whether it’s releasing rubber duckies itto the Skeena off Ferry Island, or watching some youth soccer action at Christie Park, Riverboat Days wan't disappoint for the sporting person. hd aps f SE : ath soccer-challenge*"~ ) :'Teams from-around.the northwest and interior:> will be taking part in this fast-paced tournament. Look for visitors from Alaska too. Boys under 12 and under 14 teams, and the girls under 14 teams will take part in the two day event, sponsored by Terrace Youth Soccer. The local teams are just coming off trips to the provincials last month where some captured medals. The Terrace under 14 team finished on top at Riverboat Days last year, as did the Terrace under 12 team. All games are slated for Christie Park on Sa- turday and Sunday. Stock car races Parade not fast enough for you? Then head over to the Terrace Speedway where stock car races will lear up the track. Three classes of cars will compete in this year’s event at the Terrace Speedway — still the only oval shaped track in the northwest.
