SUBJECT: PLAYGROUND ZONES IN CITADEL HEIGHTS -
PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE TUESDAY, MAY 5, 1987

RECOMMENDATION

That 30 km per hour playground zones be installed along
the frontage of the park in Citadel Heights on Citadel! Drive
and portion of Castile Cres.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS

The committee dealt with a petition from the residents of
Citadel! Heights complaining about the speeding on the streets
within the subdivision and particularly in reference to the
park site. The installation of speed limit signs js Supported
by the developer, who has alsa written to all of the builders

instructing them to warn their Sub-trades not to speed.

As the park is not fenced, it would be appropriate to
install a playground zone to attempt to reduce the speed on
adjacent streets. There is some question of the effectiveness
of speed zones in playground areas but the RCMP are prepared to
do some enforcement to insure that the speed zone is adhered
