From Alderman Thompson, Chairman of the Public Works Committee, reporting Ald.Thompson re misc.P.W. on the reconstruction of the Lougheed Highway from Pipeline Road to the Pitt items River and advising that the final drawings are now complete; negotiations with the Department of Highways are now finalized, Shaughnessy Street and the Lougheed Highway is now completed with construction of that section to begin this year, and that plans can be made public next week regarding the land acquisition in- volved. In a brief discussion, Alderman Thompson advised that the final drawings are not available as they have not yet been received from the Provincial Depart— ment of Highways and the City Engineer gave a short verbal report. From Alderman Thompson, Chairman of the Public Works Committee, advising for information that the Canadian Pacific Railway Company has now given the City tentative approval in verbal form for the crossing of their right~of-way under the PoCo Trail, with formal approval expected from the C.P.R. and Transport Commission momentarily. Alderman Thompson, in his report, further advised that the strike of the pipe suppliers is now over, and upon receipt of the approvals mentioned, the order of pipe presently on back-order, will be confirmed and the new sections required will be added; also, that money is on hand for the project. From’ Alderman Thompson, Chairman of the Public Works Committee, recalling for information that a previous suggestion of ch -nges for garbage pick-up on an identifiable basis with accompanying overall reduction in mill-rate to effect taxation did not meet with favour, and pointing out that the budget allowance of $173,600. for garbage services will quite likely be exceeded by approximately $17,000. by year end; further, there continues to be difficulty in the fact that some Commercial properties require service 2 and 3 times per week while others only receive and require once-a-week pick-up and some provide their own contain- er pick-up through private enterprise, but do not receive any rebate for provid- ing their own service.
