Al6 Terrace Review — Wednesday, October 24, 1990 4 Traffic light request for Twin River complex fails There will be no traffic iight installed at the Lakelse-Apsley - intersection. At least not in the immediate future. _ Terrace city council has decided that the volume of traffic’ at the intersection doesn’t warrant a traffic light at the present lime, but council has agreed to "review the situation as the need arises". Just how this "need" will be determined was not specified. The Skeena Senior Citizens Housing Society asked the city to consider a traffic light at the inter- - section because of an expected increase in traffic there following the construction of Twin River |. _ Estates, a proposal to move the Lucky Dollar Bingo Palace from . Highway 16 West to a new pre- mises on Legion Ave., and a pro- ‘ posed neighbourhood pub at the - Bavarian Inn. According to. the | society, this increased traffic will no doubt lead to many accidents or Near misses at this intersection, where Legion Ave. and Apsley St. meet Lakelse Ave. Lakelse Ave. is the only access to the old Skeena bridge, and Legion Ave. already provides access to the Royal Canadian Legion, the curling rink, Riverside City staff, mayor get credit card for travel There is now little chance of our city officials becoming stranded due to a shortage of cash. Terrace city council has approved an appli- cation for a corporate VISA card in the name of the city with a credit limit of $10,000, Listed on the card, each with an individual limit of $2,000, will be mayor Jack Talstra, administrator Bob Hallsor, economic develop- ment officer Peter Monteith and director of engineering Stew Chris- tensen. Under the present system, city officials offen have to pay ‘ expenses out-of-pocket and then file an expense claim on their return. Normally, at Jeast one of the above persons would be on any given junket, but if they’re not, explains alderman Danny Sheridan, they will just have to revert to the old system and rely on their per- sonal chequing accounts, Park and a number of businesses. In the mean time, however, another downtown intersection will be getting more immediate atten- tion. Terrace council has agreed to pay Hamilton and Associates $7,000 to investigate traffic management concerns at the Lazelle-Eby St. intersection as well as to review traffic flow problems along Lazelle and Lakelse Ave. between Eby St. and Kalum St. Hamilton and Associates is the consulting firm currently doing the Highway 16 corridor study for the Ministry of Highways.
