a 4 re. iy a ' Many of Terrace’s streets are named for people who used to live here in the early part of the century. Lazelle is probably one of the better known and one of the longer streets. When I heard that Terrace had visitors by the name of Lazelle, I just had to find them. I caught up with them in the Timberland Trailer Park: Le Baron Lazelle, his wife Nona E. Lazelle and sister Orpha (Lazelle) Bradley spent a week in Terrace recently, seeing the sights and visiting with relatives and friends. Le Baron (Barrie) and Orpha were both born in Terrace. Their father, Frank Lazelle, operated Lazelle’s Hardware on Kalum Street in the early 1900’s. Their mother was Helen Little Lazelle, George Little’s sister. The family left the country to live in California when Bar- rie and Orpha were about five and six years old. They all returned to Terrace in 1925, but only stayed for one year, when they again left for California. This. time it was for good. Today Barrie and his lovely wife Nona make their home in La Mesa, California (close to San Diego). Orpha. (nicknamed _ Torchy for her beautiful red hair), lives in Modesto, Califor- nia. Modesto is in the San _Francisco Bay.area.-Nona was: born in the.U,S.A. Her -hus-. band laughingly calls her.a ““mainiak”’ because she was born in the State of Maine... They are on a two-month holi- day, touring around in their - ‘comfortable and spacious motorhome. Terrace is buzzing with visitors, not only from out of town, but from out of country. Recently I had a chance to brush up on my Dutch when I talked with Mrs. Johanna Aart- sen, who is here visiting from - Holland. Mrs. Aartsen arrived - in Terrace with her longtime friend, Mrs. Johanna Van Genne, who lives in Dawson — Creek, to visit with son and daughter-in-law Michael and Anneke Van Genne. The two Johanna’s have been friends for more than 50 years. Though Johanna Van Genne and family left Holland in 1955 to start a new life in Canada, | the two Johanna’s kept in touch. It was in 1980 that Mrs. Aartsen came to Canada for the first time. Today — 1989. — it is her fourth visit. Mrs. ‘ Aartsen was born in The Hague, but spent most: of her - life in Apeldoorn, where she still resides today. Her stay in Canada is for six weeks, and as. long as she stays healthy (she’s TT) she hopes to come back again someday. Lee was born in Ireland, but has lived in England: for most of her life. She is a typesetter by profession and curiosity © brought her to the offices of the Terrace Review, comparing the systems used here-and in England. You play ends like in curling and the scoring is like curling, except no ice is needed. It is‘an ‘outdoor game played on grass. You think with a fair number of Italian people around, we | would have a bocci league. Maybe they should start one. How about it, Tony! The Terrace Chapter of the R.N.A.B.C.
