. 10 Terrace Review — Wednesday, July 22, 1987. IN. TERRACE COUNCIL LIBRARY UPGRADING AND EXPANSION PLANNED The city has set aside $5,000 to conduct a study on possible expansion of the present library : building and to upgrade the ex- isting washroom facilities. The study, which is con- sidered the first phase of an over-all upgrading program, will be done by Soutar and Assoc. Architects of Terrace. In a letter to council, Alan Soutar said the study would evaluate future ’ - geeds and show how the long term needs of the community could best be met by exploring alternate. layouts. Other work being done on the library at the present time in-- cludes a new humidifier system and beefed-up security. A contract worth $6,297 was - awarded to Aqua Plumbing and Heating Limited to install the new humidifier, The Aqua plumbing bid was the lowest of three received, Other bids were received from Lenard Enter- prises Ltd. and Dave’s Plumbing and Heating. Part of the reason for the in- - stallation of the new equipment is. the hope that the humidifier will slow the deterioration of the. library roof. Improvements to the security. of the library building include _ improved lighting at the front and rear of the building, replace- ment of the rear door to the Art ‘Gallery, and the installation of protective screening over a rear door and skylights, These improvements were selected {from a list of security ‘upgrading items by the Planning and Public Works .Committee, who recommended that the bal- ance of the security measures be included in the 1988 budget. _ The committee also recom- mended that money for security upgrading in 1987 be diverted ‘from: intended cosmetic im- provements to deteriorating beams in the building’s roof... In their recommendation the committee stated they felt any work on the beams should wait until. the effect of the new humidifier equipment could be - "observed to determine if it ' would slow the deterioration of the roof beams. > LANDING RELIABILITY 7 DISCUSSED AT PROVINCIAL | ‘LEVEL © Terry: Morris of Canadian .
