QUNCIL | THE CORPORATION OF THE DEC 16 7985 | CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM - . . MEMORANDUM . TO: Be Kirk December 11, 1985 City Administrator FROM: F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Traffic Restrictions for Mary Hii! Road = i Public Works Committee - December 10, 1985 as Recommendation: . a That the existing truck route designation on Mary HI11 Road be . removed from Pitt River Road to the Mary Hil! Bypass and further that a special No Truck Route designation be placed over the portion of i Mary Hil! Road south of Mary Hill lane to the Bypass, and that the y speed limit for the entire road rematn at 50 kilometers per hour. Background and Comments: Council has approved a budget item for reconstruction of the south end of Mary Hil! Road in 1986. Design is underway and we ; anticipate that we will be able to get a grant from the Ministry of i Highways to assist with the construction. Construction would not be ie expected :o start until late in the spring. In the meantime, the Mary i Hil! Bypass will be opened and Mary HII! Road wiil be connected to the i Bypass. Mary HII! Road is narrow tn places and would not support full us@ as an arterial road because of the restricted width. Rather than deny the use to all restdents of the City, the Committee feels that the road could be used with care by passenger cars without creating a safety problem. . Mary Hill Road now has a truck route on [te We would propose that this be removed. Removal of the truck route does not necessarily i prohibit trucks from using the road If they have a fegitimate purpose | to be on the roade We therefore further recommend that the south end ‘ of the road be prohibited to all trucks by a special No Truck Route i designation in the Bylaw. 23
