Most of the publicity undertak- en by the government in the mat- ter of the forthcoming registra- tion is apparently being left to the registrars in the various provinces, and we are not sure they are doing enough. It must be born in mind word of thereg- istralion must penetrate into ev- ery place in the Dominion where there are human beings. Itisa roatter which cannot be kept too much before the public. Men and womeh of all nationalities in the Dominion will have to repis- ter, for the only ones exempt are|- .cloistered nuns, persons upon ac- tive service in any of His Majes- ty’s naval and military forces, and persons confined in asylums or jails. We see nothing in the regulations which excludes In- dians or Chinese or Doukhobors., For these re. sons too widespread publicity cannot be given to the], inventory to be taken, nor can the public be too strongly im- pressed with the compulsory na- ture of the reyulations, Noja doubt the different provincial registrars are taking this into account, and will do all within their power to let everyone know between now and June 22,—Eix. CAN’T LEARN—OR WONT. Germany has always prided herself that “nobody could teach ” her anything”, that her ‘‘kultur’’ was the acme of perfection and -unequailed by any. She has systematically taught her people that there was onelaw for Ger- many and another for the other nations; that what Gernmiany did |: was right and if her actions broke the laws of the other nations, Germany wad right and the other nations wrong; that Germany was faultiess. 'Chroughout the length of this war Germany has always" observed these two codes . and has been surprised when re- taliatory measures were employ- ed against her. She introduced poison gad and it shocked her| m when the Allies used it. against, * | signed, by differentiating between the| rights of her acts and those of her enemies. She has demanded the releuse of Von Rintelen, sen- tenced in San Francisco for plot- ting against the U.S., taking the attitude that because he worked for Germany he could not be re- garded a3 a eriminal, and threat- ens to make reprisals by mal- treating American prisoners in Germany if Rintelen is not re- leased, The U.S. promptly an- swered that Germans in America will be accorded the sanie treat- ment meted out to Americans in Germany, to which Germany has not replied, doubtless being still gasping from this blow to her egotism—and Rintelen is still in jail. Your move, Kaiser, The Germans claim to have advanced at Curry. The French will doubtless make it hot enough for them there. Wm. Grant’s agency received a check last week in full’ settle- ment of Miss Wright's. fire at Skeena Crossing. Are you in- sured? #EK] James G. Powell Provincial Assayer. Chemist. ”-New Hazelton, B.C.
