Dear Mr. Minister:

Re: 1989/96 Residential Property Assessments

i am writing to apprise you of the concerns of our Council as expressed at
the October 17 meeting during our consideration of the October 13 report of
our Director of Financial Services, a copy of which is attached.

The discussions resulted in passage of the following resolution:

"THAT the Mayor, along with appropriate District staff, approach the
Provincial Government to investigate the possible imposition of a ‘cap’

for 1989 and 1990 residential property assessments similar to that for
major industrial;

AND THAT the other municipalities within the Greater Vancouver Regional

District that are experiencing similar increases be requested to support
this action."

We are concerned about a significant redistribution of the tax load within
the residential category all in one year and ask that the same consideration

be given to residential taxpayers as was afforded the major industrial
category.
