SUBJECT: Recycling Program For Service Conmnencial Businesses
(Environmental Protection Committee Meeting of April 8, 1992)

That service commercial businesses in Port Coquitlam be invited to participate in the Port
Coquitlam blue bag recycling program.

The Environmental Protection Committee considered the attached memorandum from the
Project Engineer, dated April 3, 1992 regarding extending the City of Port Coquitlain’s
Recycling Program to service commercial businesses and to schocls in the Port Coquitlam area.

The Port Coquitlam Recycling Program is operating well in the single family and multi family
sector, and is ready to be extended to the ICI sector. It is proposed to invite service commercial
businesses to Participate in the blue bag recycling program for collection of office paper ‘and

newspapers. There is sufficient additional capacity in the task-based collection system. The
additional processing and marketing costs for the collected material is estimated to be $15,000 te
$20,000 which is available in the 1992 Recycling Budget. .

The matter of extending the Port Coquitlam Recycling Program to schools within the City has
been referred to the Municipal/School Liaison Committee for consideration.
