Eng., city Engineer SUBJECT: Request for Budget Increase ~ Water Maintenance Account (Public Works Committee Meeting November 22, 1988} Recommendation: That the Water General Maintenance Budget (Account Mo. 62122) be increased by $34,000 and that this amount be funded by the unexpected higher revenues to be credited to the Water Utility Fund. Background and Comments: The attached memo from the Operations Manager provides details supporting this request. Briefly, the additional funds requested are needed to off-set the unusually large number of water service leaks which have occurred this year. Statistics provided by the Operation Manager indicate that the total number of service leak calls in 1987 was 184. As of October 24, 1988 we have had 233 calls. In addition, responding to Council's wish to provide better Surface restoration after City crews have effected repairs, additional expenditures have been incurred. in searching the source of funds for this request, the City Treasurer ises that there will be much more revenue collected under the Water Utility e than initially forecasted. “= ao T.M.
