Canada (ood) 669-5045 VGH SRT GALLERY REPORT The past year has been a profitable one, but our actual sales were down from 1989 by 4%, The projected revennues were higher than actual, sinee back in April we were optimis- tic that 1989 sales would be re- peated, but we did manage to hold expenditures to budget. Many thanks to Lea Price for her considerable contributions to the Gallery's operation this past fall The change from Exhibitions to Featured Artists in the Gallery has worked well, and with 70 potters currently selling in the Gallery, we look forward to the coming year. Coralie Triance, Manager Scheduled feature shows include Laurle Rolland. a Sheridan gradu- ate and a relatively recent from On- tarto. Laurie will be featured Febru- ary 4th-24th. Maureen Wright Feb. 26th -Mar. 17th Jim Thornsbury “Still Lives” Mar. 19th—April 7th ARTIST STATEMENT For this work I have used art histori- eal references. Specifically, 12th Century religious art and the art of the early Americas, to develop a personal vocabulary. In the past people were more certain about the origins of life and humankind's destiny. Artists could deal with read- lly accepted concepts of human existence, Today, in the absence of a shared system of beliefs, there must be invention. I seek to explore symbols that reflect a traditional yet contem- porary altitude to human existence. The actual making process is very much Uke putting a puzzle together. Different parts are extruded, thrown or handbuilt and then assembled. The decorative process is similar in that different images are juxtaposed leaving the viewer to assemble a Ineariing.
