B8 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, dune F, 1999 {Who hires students? We all do! Students count on summer jobs fo return te school and build experience. Hire a student for a day, a week, or the whole summer. 635-7134 Local 303 Oleepeeka Roches and Keary Murphy have been working at the library for over a year, but this summer they will be full-time Net teachers for adults and kids in town. Both Roches and Murphy are heading off to Vancouver for a: training pro- gram put on by the provincial government. Library hires Net teachers CLAIR and Viola Giggey will be remembered by fam- ily, friends and two nephews Bill and Jim Christy. Couple remembered HERE''!N THERE YVONNE MOEN : THE WARMTH and com- passion of Viola Sarah Gig- gey will be missed by all who knew her. Bor Viola Christy on De- cember 15, 1902 she passed away in St. Vincent’s Hos- pital May 13, 1999. Originally from Thurso, Quebec, the Christy family moved to Terrace in late December 1919, Viola was the eldest of the seven children and had just had her 70th birthday when she passed on. She was a beautiful lady and Clair Giggey claims that he fell in love with her the first time he saw her. They married May 12, 1921 and lived together for 60 years. On June 26, 1923 Viola gave birth to a baby boy, Clair George, who sadly died only six months later. In 1948 Clair and Viola adopted a baby boy and named him Michael. Both adored their child. Viola was an outgoing person who took an active part in the affairs of the community. She attended the Anglican church and taught Sunday School. During the war, Viola _ worked diligently for the Red Cross, She and Mrs. Will Robinson were regu- lars at the Red Cross Depot. Viola was good at “‘tum- ing the heel in army socks, so many local knitters would knit to the heel and bring them to her to finish the tricky bits,’ Robinson said.. Viola was singled out for commendation by the Gov- . ernor General’s wife when she visited the local Red Cross stalion. She was al- ways willing to help with charilable functions and was well liked in the com- munity. She will be remem- bered with love by all who knew her. Clair Giggey died June 26, 1983 at the age of 89. When he died, a tribute to him in the Terrace paper was writ- ten by George Little’s son, Gordon. The following is an ex- cerpt from that tribute: “Clair Giggey was a first class citizen, a strong church member who was helpful and beneficial to the town, especially to its needy citizens, He made many donations of gilts anonymously to help those he could, “This was trely a remark- able man. Yes, many Ter- race cilizens would agree, that Mr. Giggey was a per- son who likely contributcd the most to Terrace and for the peaple.”’ Again another Terrace pioneer couple has left us, but they have left behind their mark in Terrace. THE TERRACE public library is participa- ting in the Youth@B.C. program for the third year, employing two local students to teach people how to use the Internet. Keary Murphy, from Caledonia Sr. Secondary, and Oleepeeka Roches, from NWCC, have been hired as [nternet trainers for children and adults. Murphy and Roches have worked at the library for more than a year, but look for- ward to their mew roles. “T got the chance to do some teaching last year and I really liked it,”? said Mur- phy. Murphy will graduate this summer and feels lucky to have this job. “There were only two positions open and getting this job will give me experience for university,”’ he said, Roches also said that a future working with computers is more appealing. “Working with computers is definitely more appealing to me now,’’ she said. Sitting in front of a computer isn’t what she has in mind fora career though. ‘Teaching is the best part of this job be- cause I can see people improve at what I’ve taught them.”? The Internet is already a popular pass time, but Roches hopes this program will help it become even more popular.’ “The interest in the program has really increased with kids, but I’d like to see more adulis get involved,”* she said, (GREIGHTLINED) TRUCKS | 1994 INTERNATIONAL 9400 48” SLEEPER 470 HP DETROIT SRS 60 18 SPEED FULIER TRANS MERITOR RT46 4.30 REARS REDUCED TO $37,500 1987 FORD L800 DUMPFRUCK CAT 3208 ENGINE 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION 2 SPEED REAR AXLE $11,500 poecanes Terrace Truck & Diesel Ltd.
