BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: The Parks & Recreation Committee discussed the issue of single family homes and how the bylaw would affect them. The City Solicitor indicated that in its present form, trees on single family lots could not be cut unless they came for a tree cutting permit. However, the Committee wanted some leeway in the bylaw that would allow a homeowner an opportunity to cut one tree per year if they needed to. The Solicitor provided us with the wording for an amendment that would permit the cutting of one tree. As indicated earlier; the Parks & Recreation Committee realizes that over time other amendments may be necessary. However, it is very important that a bylaw be put into effect immediately to protect trees in large tracts of land in development permit areas. Gp rar =a J aylor / arks & Recreation Director JST/pg
