That the following resolution be adopted by City Council: WHEREAS Bylaw Nos. 1214, 1281 and 1393, being Nature Area Dedication Bylaws and the "Nature Area Regulation Bylaw, 1976, No. 1433" establish and regulate the Nature Area in the City; AND WHEREAS the said Bylaws provide that the said Nature Area shall be maintained in its natural state insofar as it is Possible so to do and except for the purpose of advancing its use as a Nature Area no development work of any kind whatsoever shall take place therein; . ‘ AND WHEREAS an allegation that certain trees in the Nature Area are dangerous has been received and the City has had J.S. Peepre & Associates prepare a Tree Assessment and, in this report, dated May, 1983, certain trees are identified as being hazardous and a recommendation is therein made that these trees should be removed; NOW THEREFORE BE _ IT RESOLVED that the City of Port Coquitlam Parks Department, by its employees, agents, or servants, be authorized to remove the approximately 30 trees identified in the report as being hazardous and to top approximately 14 trees in an effort to reduce any hazard that may be posed by these trees; AND THAT the cost. thereof, estimated to be $2,000 be taken from the $90,000 unallocated capital public works money. 4. That the residents in the area be notified by letter about the tree cutting that will be taking place. 5. That the cut-up wood may be used by the residents in the area. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: Council received separately the Tree Assessment report on the Nature Area. The report was extensive and well worth the money spent. An estimate was done by a local firm for the cutting and bucking of the wood; the cost of this is $2,000. The price does not include any clearing away of debris. Presently there is much debris in the designated areas and this will be increased after the trees have been cut. Council should be aware that there may be a potential -fire hazard if the weather was extremely dry. The Parks crew, in the winter months, will go into the area and clean up and there will be a need to do some burning. Attached is a memorandum from the City eK K.
