TERRACE — Five sets of con-
tract documents at a cost of $500
each were sold by the province’s
Privatization Group at a bid-
ders’ meeting here May 13. The
documents are supposed to give
contractors a clear idea of what
they'll be bidding for in order to
take over the district highway
‘and: bridge maintenance func-
tions.

This information comes from
Ross Husdon, provincial project
director for road and bridge
maintenance privatization. Two
newspaper editors and a televi-
sion crew were at the Inn of the
West when the meeting began in
the hotel’s east banquet room,
but after consulting with the bid-
ders Husdon said they had voted
to exclude the press from the
meeting.

Husdon indicated that of the

‘five parties who purchased
documents four are from. the
Northwest region and the other
is ‘‘a very large’ contractor
from the lower mainland. No
further information was made
available on the identities of the
contractors,

- will be expected to perform
routine road maintenance such

“as ditch cleaning, culvert clear-
ing, sealcoating and crackfilling,
"and re-gravelling. Winter main-
~. tenance work will include plow-
ing, sanding, salting, ice
: Dlading,’ snow fence installation
and avalanche clearing.

“respond to emergencies in the —

event: of floods, washouts,
“slides, motor vehicle accidents,
and spills of dangerous goods.
> Maintenance of signs, line paint-
ing and repairs to barricades are
also part of the package.
Bridge maintenance functions
include painting, deck repairs,
<criver channel work and struc-
‘tural repairs.

selves will remain in public
~ ownership, and licenses of oc-
cupation willbe issued for use of
- Ministry of Highways buildings
- and facilities. Specially designed
heavy maintenance equipment
. will be leased to the contractor,
“but the successful bidder will be
’ yequired to purchase small tools

through a public auction.

Peter Clark, a spokesman for
the Privatization Group said
bidders will have to pre-qualify
with regard to capital structure,
management structure and ex-
perience. Those who pass the
pre-qualification will be invited
to submit detailed proposals.
The pre-qualification deadline
has been set at May 30, after
which contractors will have
about six weeks to develop and
submit detailed proposals.

day’’ for the group, who will be
distributing tags for donations
in a number of locations around
Terrace. The tags will indicate
that the donor is a Terrace Little
Theatre supporter.

For local drama fans who

ance, ‘The Creation, and the
Fall of Lucifer’ will be staged at
the Terrace Little Theatre on
Kalum St. Saturday and ivion-
day evenings. Admission is by
donation.

The play is a revival of a 14th

century miracle play using the —

original language. The director
is Richard Wood, lighting and
set design are by. Dave Battison,
and the actors are Margaret Sin-
jur, Daniel Barnswell, Marc
Smith, Jim Branch and Char-
lotte Schoeps.
