The league has nine divisions — T-Ball, Mites, Squirt boys and girls, Peewee boys and girls, Bantam boys and girls, and Midget. They'll be using ball fields at Elks Park, Cassie Hall School, and Thornhill district grounds (for the first time). Divisions and teams are as follows: T-Ball — Vic Froese Truck- ing, L?il Oilers, Centennial Bantams and peewees set for Super Series “Three Terrace youths, plus one from Prince Rupert, have earned the right to move on to play in the annual ‘Mack Super Series’ tournament at Delta in early August. Seven area players in the peewee and bantam age groups travelled to Kamloops on the April 16 weekend to try out for berths on the interior team. — Prince Rupert’s Mark McCoy and Jason Krug of Terrace earn- ed spots on the minor bantam team. In the peewee section, Terrace’s Chad Wilson made the team while fellow Terrace player Jason Waldron was named a spare. Terrace’s Davey Jones, Jared - Ewart and Shane De Jong also tried out. The Super Series, now in its sixth year, is similar to the under-17 ‘Best Ever’ series for midget-aged players. The Super event winds up with a provincial ‘tournament, while the ‘Best Ever’ allows top talent to pro- ceed to inter-provincial play. At Kamloops, organizer Glen Esselmont told us ue held tryouts for interior squads for the three divisions — minor peewee, major peewee and minor bantam. He had 150 boys Seniors get ready _ for games Some playoffs have been com- ~ pleted, others are forthcoming, and in a few sports they won’t require any playoffs. That’s the word from zone 10 co-ordinator Arlene Bergh con- cerning the first annual B.C. Senior Summer Games coming up June 14 - 16 at Vernon. Bergh said zone 10, which in- cludes Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert and the Queen Charlot- tes, won’t require playoffs for snooker and table tennis as the. two players for each sport were the only entries, so they'll go to Vernon. She also said carpet bowling was played off at Terrace earlier this month with a Terrace team set to go. Cribbage was to be played off at Rupert on April 23. The first week in May sees golf finals at ’ Prince Rupert and horseshoes at Terrace. No playoff is set so far for swimming. Dates for darts and ‘tennis’ at Kitimat will be an- “nounced shortly, and a date for - five-pin bowling at Terrace is -also expected very soon. . Bergh. said the three major communities are all expected to raise $1,000 towards expenses, which will be helped by grants . from government agencies. . Terrace has a huge hand-made quilt to raffle. It’s donated by the Happy Gang Centre ladies, and they’re selling tickets to ‘raise part of. the Terrace con- itribution, © ea with about 50 in each age group. Other tryouts are held for the lower mainland and Vancouver Island, who put in their own teams of boys from their area. It’s a pay-as-you-go situation . until you make the team of 15 forwards and defencemen, goalies and five spares. If they make the team and go to the August 6 - 13 tournament at Delta, each boy has a chance at some of the $25,000 in all-star awards. The Kamloops weekend tryout gave boys eight hours: each on the ice, going through drills on shooting, skating, pass- ing and'so on. Now the team is picked and it gathers again for a week of prac- tice at Kamloops before heading for Delta for the big series, start- ing Aug. 1. The Delta event will feature all-star teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, On- tario and Quebec, plus Ameri- can squads from’ Minnesota, Detroit, and possibly Boston and Chicago.
