THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM -~2- ITEM IIT Re: Future Landfill Sites Alderman Traboulay had requested the available life of the Terra Nova Landfill and also what other sites are avail- able. The GVRD advises that the present landfill has four years left and that other alternatives are being considered. Our own spoil from construction can be used to fill City property which is too low. In particular, once the remainder of Thompson Park has been filled to a satisfactory level, we could use the two City properties on Broadway as a dumping site. ig ‘Alderman Traboulay also questioned what was to be done . with the old Welcher Dump site. The Committee feels that the potential use within this area would be recreational and there- for could be considered by the Leisure Activities Committee. ITEM IV Re: Takeover of Sweeping Lougheed Highway The Ministry of Highways has a standard policy which it follows with respect to cost-sharing on highways through the ; municipalities. In the case of arterial highways, this policy requires that the City take over the sweeping and catch basin cleaning on any highway which has curbs. The Lougheed Highway now is curbed on the north side from Westwood Street to Oxford Street. Some short sections of curbing exist on the south side as well but as these are not the standard type of curb and gutter, Highways will not require us to take over the sweeping on the south side. ; Highways have suggested that we might consider making an exchange of responsibilities in order to make the maintenance more efficient for both sides. They have suggested that we do both sides from Westwood to Shaughnessy and that they do both sides from Shaughnessy to the other side of Oxford Street. .As such an arrangement would-be more efficient and iwnore convenient. for us, the Committee recommends that the proposal from the District Highways Engineer be accepted and that we be responsible for sweeping and cleaning catch basins on the section of Lougheed Highway between Westwood Street and Shaughnessy Street. ITEM V Re: Bus Stop Arrangements on Shaughnessy and McAllister ' We have now received a letter from B.C. Hydro giving their schedule for the bus stop arrangements at the intersection of Shaughnessy and McAllister starting with their new route changes in July. The letter assures us that they will not schedule more than two buses to be stopped in any of the bus [Basee
