The bantams. start skating this week in. - preparation for the year ahead. -Coach John Amos is looking forward to . “the new season. “It’s going to be fun,” he says, adding that having a good group of kids and parents ~ to work with is an ideal situation. “His squad will welcome back seven sec- ond-year players and 10 newbies from the. “peewees. Some players have been. working out all : ‘summer to stay in shape. ° “Chapen [Leblond]’s: growing and gung- ho,” Amos says. “Alexa [Grant]’s growing. She put on 25 pounds. One big change for Amos and the ‘team this year will be the absence of his father i in the stands. John Amos Sr. passed away after a short battle with cancer earlier this summer. » . He says his dad was a fixture of the ban- tam team for 20 years, only missing a hand- ful-of games during that time. His spirit remains with the team. Next month, the bantams will compete in a tourney in Merritt. “That one’s a good tournament.
