Her daughter, Shirley Daugherty, drove all the way from Terrace to visit. And so did her daughter. And so did her daughter. And so did her daughter. All told, there were five gen- erations of females at great- great-grandmother Lily’s house on Jan. 16. They range in age from 79- year-old Lily to Chailynn Daugherty, who is just three and a half months old. And though four of them live in Terrace now they all have deep roots in the Columbia Valley. Lily arrived in the Golden area during the depression as a young teenager, when her fa- ther moved the family from Cadillac, Saskatchewan. He homesteaded a piece of land in the area and Lily grew up, married and had seven children. One of them was Shirley. Shirley was born in Kimber- ley, but remembers attending school in Castledale and later at Columbia Valley. Before she graduated, she met and married an older man from Edgewater. She and Myron Daugherty (‘Half of Edgewater is related to him,”’ Lily says) have been married 37 years, In 1966, Shirley and Myron moved to Terrace. They took their kids with them, including Karen, who was born in In- vermere, but went through school in Terrace, Which is where Tracy was born. And last fall, Tracy gave birth to Chailynn — Lily’s first great-great grandchild. With so many mothers pres- ent, observers at the celebra- ‘tion just couldn't resist the question. What did your mother say to you that you say to your daughter (even though you swore you wouldn't)? Tracy isn’t sure. Chailyan is still too young for that. Karen knows. In her best mother voice, she intones, “Where are you going and who are you going there with?’’ . Shirley laughs. “Darn right,’’ says Lily. But Myron, sitting patiently while the women tell. their Stories, gets in the last word. “It didn’t do any good, though,”’ he tells Lily. ichanthin € Ld Appliance Repair - Prompt Service in Your Home for: | _ © Major Appliances Call Nathan 635-9428 Certified Technician _* Refrigeration _* Air Conditioners Licensed for Freon Recovery * Super bass $ q Model XLF 215 * 5 Disc caraqusel «Remote control «Random access AUDIO/VIDEO RECEIVER Model RX 515 * Dolby pro logic « AM/FM Receiver + Remote control * Programmable CD player - Double cassette deck * Hyper bass » Detachable speakers «3 band equalizer + Digital tuner «Remote Model 20 CMS « 20 inch. viewing area + Dark tint tube “495 * Remote contral Model HR J410 «d4head * Multi brand remote control * Front A/V jacks Model UX T1 + Compact design « 27 watts hyper bass ‘449.95 * Remote control Model TOW 107 * Double deck * Continuous play Model GREZi * 3x power zoom * VHS C-Tape format ‘Hi speed dubbing JVC CAMCORDER « Easy to use SHEENA MALL 635-4948 KEITH AVE. 695-5333
