Smithers Ski Club members were winners in ail four races held on the Feb. 1 weekend at the Kitsumkalum Ski Hill, It was a Bantam Pepsi Challenge series with slalom and giant slalom races for boys and girls. Skiers from the local club, plus Hickory Wing in Prince George, and Kitimat, also competed. In the opening girls’ giant slalom on Satur- day, Smithers skiers finished in the top three positions with Leanne Wilson first, Claire Challen second and Nicole Collison third. Terrace skiers Results for Terrace Kermodes to Edmonton Caledonia Kermode boys attend their final big out- side high school basketbail tournament this weekend when they take a train ride to Edmonton for the eight-team, inter-provincial series hosted by Harry Ainlay High School. Several top teams from B.C. and the prairies are taking part, including Holy Cross of Saskatoon — the team the Kermodes meet in their opener Friday at 3 p.m. Alberta time. Holy Cross is the number one ranked team in Sas- katchewan. Also competing is M.E.I. of Clearbrook, Calgary's Bishop Carroll, Winnipeg's Churchill, L.C.I. of Lethbridge, Victoria’s Belmont and the hosts from Harry Ainlay school. Kermodes opened with a 100-61 victory over Prince George Kelly side, which gives teams a guaranteed three games. Fire Thornhill Fire Depart- ment report a car fire on Thursday, Feb. 6. The incident took place on Water Lily, said fire chief Art Hoving. There were no dam- ages reported in a small grass fire on the corner of Eby and Loen. Van- dalism is suspected and the fire is still under in- vestigation, the fire department reported. Road. Terrace boys win eight team series Kevin Moldenhauer with 18, Kevin Maki with 14 and Garth Schmidt with ‘a dozen. In the semi-finals they took on the host Con- dors and squeezed out an 86-80 win. Maki had a hot hand with 19 points, but Chris McDonald was hotter as he hooped 25. Moldenhauer contrib- uted 15. It wasn’t even close in the Kermodes 25-point win over their Arch rivals from the alumi- num city. Harry Dahmi topped Kermode scoring with 17 points. Kent Aird, Dave Kirkaldy and Moldenhauer each had 10, To gain a berth in the final, Kitimat downed College Heights 64-48 and beat Quesnel 67-61. Both Moldenhauer and Maki picked up first all-star honors for their work, Joe Almeida was named a first all-star for Kitimat. The Rebels’ Greg Engen won the most valuable player award.
