Last weekend the Terrace arena was opened for business on 2 limited bases, with some minor and senior hockey, figure skating and a good deal skating. The number of skaters allowed in at one time is limited and will be until the front foyer and lobby is completed. At this time the official opening of the arena will take place. Since its conception the: arena has been through many tough times and it is only through the generosity of Terrace residents in both time and money, that the structure is what it is today. Many community clubs and individuals ean be given credit for the hours they put in with hammer or collection box. | Public skating Tues: Oct. 17th - 5:30-7:30 p.m. of free public: It’s skating time in a (finally!) THE HERALD, The first public skating session in Terrace. They offered free public skating on Sunday and more than just a few people took advantage of the offer. The arena will mean much to the Terrace winter recreation scene. The very active minor hockey association has signed over 600 boys and the figure skating club as that many girls. They were in charge of keeping things running smoothly at the Terrace arena during the initial weekend of operation. Over 2,000 persons made use of {he arena’s facilities last Sunday with 770 youngsters out for figure skating: in the mor- ning’ and the afternoon and evening attracting 1,370 to free public skating. The public skaters were: allowed on the ice in groups, due to the construction taking place at the west end of the arena, resulting in long lines outside the arena.
