V3C 248 Dear Mayor Traboulay: Thank you for taking the time to meet with me on August 2 to discuss the possibility of having a representative from the City of Port Coquitlam serve on the Hemm Industries Society Board of Directors. Further to our conversation, here is a brief overview of the background of the society, the people it serves and how it benefits the commmity. 8, 8 Riverview Polyskils Society, was established on Riverview response to a need to assist Riverview patients nearing discharge in developing job skills and acceptable social behaviours. The workshop began actual operation in 1977 with initial funding coming from a small estate left by a former Riverview patient. For 5% years the workshop operated out of small, tempo- rary quarters on hospital grounds. [n March, 1983 the Society realized a long-time goal and moved to its present premises at 224 Cayer Street, Coquitlam. The client workers, through a realistic work environment, learn many occupational skills needed in a competitive work+ force. While providing opportunities for our workers to gain marketable skills, it became apparent that a stronger business image was needed to increase our credibility as a respected industry in the commmity. In keeping with this philosophy, we have changed our name from Riverview Polyskils Society te Hemm Industries Society.
