The Works and Services Committee have held a joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Committee on this matter and have also made a site visit with Mr. Birchmore to obtain more information regarding these problems. The Works and Services Committee confirms that these are legitimate problems and recommends a number of remedial and preventative measures to solve these problems. Firstly, gates © ould be erected at the entrances to this area to prevent further dumping of debris. The two entrances into this area are !ocated at the south ends of Burleigh and Ticehurst road allowances. Secondiy, "No dumping, trespassing or motorized vehicles" signs should be erected adjacent to these gates. These signs serve to clearly warn the public and to enable the R.C.M.P. to effectively enforce these regulations. Thirdly, the numerous piles of debris found littered throughout this area should be cleaned up and hauled away. Fourthly, in view of the short time remaining before burning is permitted and in an attempt to reduce the cost of this clean up, it is recommended that the dead branches and trees within this area be stockpiled, in the interim, in an area to be selected by the Fire Chief and. subsequently burned as soon as possible after October 15, 1984. The Works and-Services Committee recognizes that the costs associated with the above remedia! and preventative measures (estimated to be $1500) can not be funded out of the normal public works operating accounts since they have not been praviously budgetted. It is therefore recommended that the estimated cost of $1500 be funded from the 1984 Unallocated Public Works Capital Account. With respect to clearing the underbrush along the river bank; this matter was also investigated. This work invoives the hand clearing of a strip of river bank on the west side approximately 50 meters in length south of the McAllister pedestrian bridge. The Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman and the Parks and Recreation Director have been consulted in this matter. The parks and Recreation *: ector advises that funds are available in the 1984 Parks Department norma! operating accounts to cover the cost of the initial clearing of this area and that should Counci! wish to continue the clearing of this area on a reguiar basis, the respective Parks operating account will have to be increased accordingly. The Parks and Recreation Department wil! Include this item in a later report to Council. TM. Chong, P. Eng., Assistant City Engineer TMC/sgg R49 Pon) AUG 27 1984
