THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM U N C | L SEP 45 1980 MEMORANDUM TO; Mayor and Council September 15th, 1980. FROM: E.W. Mabbett, Alderman As you are aware the Sanitary Landfill we use in Coquitlam is fast becoming filled. At the Water & Waste G.V.R.D. meeting on September 10th, 1980 ~ ‘ the question or recommendation of a new location came forth. Various methods again were discussed, incineration, waste heat boilers etc, However for the present they want to purchase about 600 acres at approximately $3,000.000.00 in Delta, Burns Bog. The committee would only agree at this time to Preperation of a by~law to amend the master plan from landfills in Surrey Big Bend ' and in Burns Bog to two (2) landfills in Burns Bog. Also an application to be made to the Pollution Board for a parmit to operate, Our own local position is that we will face terrific increases in cost , Of operation if Burne Bog is the only land£il1 location, ' (i) Many miles further to travel. (2) Additional Trucks. (3) Doesn't fit in with energy couservation, due to above, (4° More meterdals will be disposed of in ditches and ravines around the City if we don't have a dump close by for residents, T made these points at the meeting and said our Engineer needs time to assess the whole situation, Tha Regional District has to realize the problems facing the easterly Municipalities and do something about a second Landfill or some such disposal nearer to the existing area, Commissioner Bunnell in a discussion after the meeting said we should be pushing for a transfer station where our vehicles would dump close by if no second gite is procured. Te fs my feeling that particularly ourselves and Coquitlam will have to get together and really put pressure on G.V.R.D. to meet cur needs in a far better way than travelling co Burns Bog. pecans sevemeser namnne # ) LATE (TEM Ae Respectfully Submigca d, RECEIVED AT: efor otis yf Gs E,W, Mabbete, Sup. taf ae) Bafa Alderman, peveenveranvereesan
