THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ~22- ITEM III Re: Highway Street Name Signs In 1978 we requested permission from the Ministry of Highways to install large size street name signs from the traffic signal poles on the Lougheed Highway. This was to allow drivers to recognize the major intersections from a ways back on the highway. At the time we were refused permission to install these Signs. Victoria now has a new Director of Traffic Engineering who has authorized the use of the traffic signal poles for mounting such signs. The signs would be a maximum size of 8" x 48" and would be hung from the middle of the traffic Signal arm. As there are five main intersections, a total of ten signs would be required at a cost of approximately $100.00 each. The Committee feels that it would be worthwhile to have these larger signs and recommends that the funds for this Signing be provided in the 1980 Budget. This boulevard is used as a short-cut by pedestrian traffic and cyclists on the way to school and it does appear that there would be no point in the Darrah's landscaping the property themselves. There is a sidewalk up to the intersection along Western Drive and another sidewalk on the north side of Lamprey. Unfortunately, this seems to mean nothing to the pedestrians. educe short-cutting if this is done he The City werk would be ITEM V Re: Speed Limit Signs on Hastings and Davies speed limit Lougheed. , [3.0.4
