Gentlemen: As Chairman of Port Moody's Standing Committee on Environmental Protection, I am writing to inform you of a matter of vital interest to each citizen in their area of the lower mainland. On Tuesday, May 9th, the Pollution Control Board of the Province of B.C., will hear the City of Port Moody's appeal against an approval to B.C. Hydro to conduct tests of burning sulphur-containing fuel oil at its Burrard Thermal Plant. The Hearing will be held in Port Moody at the Cultural Centre, 300 Ioco Road, at 7:00 in the evening in order that as many citizens as possible will be able to attend, The Council of Port Moody has asked for the support of its community groups and neighbouring municipalities who, by virtue of the uniquely sensitive geographical and atmospheric environment we share, will also be affected by Hydro's plan. We would appreciate it if you would bring this information to the attention of your colleagues, members of your organization and fellow citizens. Anyone wishing more information of the terms of Hydro's approval or the nature of Port Moody's appeal, is invited to contact myself or any member of City Council in care of City Hall (936~7211).
