Carried. . Aldermen Mabbett and Thompson voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the above-noted resolution, Alderman Mabbett reiterated his opposition stated during initial consideration of the By-law last week, that the rules in regard to sign setbacks, particularly in the downtown commercial area, are too stringent. - NEW BUSINESS: From His Worship the Mayor, January 8th, 1973 reporting on a meeting held between R.C.M.P. Sub~Inspector M, Young and Aldermen Mabbett, Laking and himself, on January 18th, 1973 to. discuss a Yeport previously submitted to Council by Alderman Mabbett regarding the abandonment without warning of the direct alarm system at the former R.C.M.P. office in the City Hall, to which several banks and local businesses were connected. Alderman Mabbett stated te concurred with the last paragraph of Mayor Scott's report recommending that “a meeting be set up between local businessmen, Councii representatives, and the R.C.M.P. to dis- cuss policing in the Port Coquitlam area". His Worship. the Mayor advised that Inspector Young admitted the Force had erred in not letting the businessmen know in advance that the alarm system was being disconnected, and Alderman Mabbett commented that the Officer in Charge at the time was the one who had erred, Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: Thar a meeting be arranged between the concerned business people and Sub- inspector MM, Young, with His Worship the Mayor as Chief Magistrate, chairing the same, to be held in-the second week of February, 1973, to discuss policing in the Port Coquitlam area. Scott, and all members of Council and their wives to patronize this charity event and to do whatever can be done to publicize ine Alderman Meyer advised he did not wish to. do anything to draw attention te the current theatre op- eration, and. stated his view that the Tequest was an attempt to gain publicity.
