Bertha Haugland was born on August 14, 1908 in
‘Bleakmore Saskatchewan where the Kells family
. were farmers.-. In her early years they moved to
Sweetgrass, Montana to farm’ and. then back to.
Alberta for a year before coming toBC in, 1920.

The family settled in the Bearhead area of Engen
just west of ‘Vanderhoof. True pioneers, the; family
cleared the land, built a-home, planted crops and
raised stock.

. Mrs. Haugland lived for 55 years in’kTerrace and
met her husband here in 1927, Théy raised all five of
their children in Terrace. Emil Haugland- ‘was -
