4s NEW *MARXIST QUARTERLY’ BRINGS GREATER CLARITY ~ TO CONFEDERATION DEBATE What is ‘the issue that divides French and English - speaking Canada? What are its roots? What policy will solve the prob- lem? : As never before these questions are being debated. The answers, however, are often be- fogged in a cloud of verbiage about bilingualism, biculturalism and the confusing interplay o such words as province, state and nation. How to cut through to the core of the matter? The editors of Marxist Quar- terly have done just that by producing a special issue oftheir publication titled Crisis of Con- - federation. It undoubtedly makes one ofthe finest contributions so far to the current discussion. Stanley Ryerson, editor of Marxist Quarterly, contributes a historical survey from 1763- 1968, dating the present crisis from the British conquest, and Leslie Morris, national leader of the Communist Party, writes on Prime Minister Pearson’s ‘‘bi- culturalism’’ and the reactionary device of ‘‘cultural autonomy,’’ removing confusion from an argument that could entrap many BCFL Con’t from pg. 2 Above all, labor needs unity of action in order to satisfy the immediate needs of the workers, tied in with a daring perspective of social change to be pioneered by the labor movement. We must say good-bye to policies which offer no hope for the future. NEW SOVIET FILM ‘“THE FLAMES on the VOLGA’”’ Sun.
