TO: MAYOR AND ALDERMEN FEBRUARY 16th, 1972, FROM: THE PLANHING AND ZOHING COMMITTEE Report from the Planning and Zoning Committee Meeting held - Wednesday, February 16th, 1972 at 3:60 p.m. Present: Alderman Laking Alderman Ranger L.D. Pollock ¥.G. Borch K.J. Stinson N. Chernoff Nr. Chapman Respectfully Submitted. Item I] Re: Zoning Advertising. Comments: This Committee was asked to consider the type of advertising used to inform the public in al} rezoning matters. Last year Council had requested larger type of ad placements. We are presently using a 3 column X 10 inches. The costs are as follows: Columbian - regular legal ad $30.00 to $35.00. + ~ Same ad 3 columns X 10 inches $130.00. + Herald * regular legal ad $10.00. + ~ same ad 3 columns X 10 inches $45.00. + We also inform every individual property owner within 400' radius of the proposed change. This is done via letter from the City Clerk's Office. We presently charge a $50.00 rezoning application fee which was to deter "try on" applications as well as help cover advertising cests. For information last year 11 hearings with 34 By-laws were processed, costing $300.00 per hearing. . It was felt by the Committee that Public Hearing for Commercial, Industrial, and Residential from lower zones did not bring encugh public participation to warrent the cust of a large advertisement. This may be due to the phasing policies we are presently following. Recommendation: The Committee recommends to Council that all Notices of Public Hearing be the regular legal size except in the case, involving Multiple Density rezoning applications, for which the larger advertising should be used, ; .
