"every year. The main issue for this Forest Renewal

BC regional director isn’t finding money, it’s making

sure enough people take advantage of the funds flow-

ing into his office.

- In 1995 the local FRBC office had a budget of $17
million, That funding. increased to $36 million for
1996, and the projection for 1997 is $45 million.
| The Crown corporation "is trying to ‘spend average
‘of $400 million per year across the province,’
Parkinson says.

Historically stumpage from Northwest B.C. has
been around $41 million, comprising roughly Il per-
cent of the provincial average.

FRBC’s goal i is to return roughly 13 percent to the
| region.

“Tt is a huge opportunity for local communities, "

says Assistant Regional Director Dave: Devana.

| broad mandate” is intended to strengthen forestry-

) dependent communities and promote more local con-

: For the past year three project officers have been
busy processing proposals, while also. traveling to
communities in the Northwest to make sure local
people understand the types of f projects FRBC will
fund.
