The city: uncovers anew ‘special interest group... | OBJECTION, OBJECTION To the Editor; a a _In some of the latest media. releases, I have e come across a couple of issues that have caused a negative. reaction.to the NDP party policy. The first issue is that: of, the funding being allocated for abortions and. ‘abortion clinics. I don’t want my tax dollars going toward legalized murder. I realize that in some instances (not as many as statistics would show) abortion is a course of action, but I'feel that it should be a last measure. By fund- ing abortions and abortion clinics, I think that we would be; encouraging it as-an act of birth control, which is wrong. I would rather see the funding going to educational programs, counselling services, and promotion of adoptive services. I also feel that if a hospital takes the stance that it will not perform abortions,. we should. respect. that. These hospital boards represent their respective communities and so _ long as they provide counselling services, adoptive : services, and, as a last measure, referral to another * hospital, they are helping to keep the social standard , ~ of that community. . I find it absolutely detestable that this govern- : ment would even consider releasing lottery funds for . the purpose of funding abortions and abortion clinics. . As a volunteer for an Air Cadet Squadron, I know ; the red tape and dance stepping that is required to. have funds released to good causes such as promot- ing leadership and citizenship. The thought that this . process could become even more.complicated due to- the decrease in funding available for such events, ' and the thought that promoting youth activities - would be put into the same priority category as | abortion, makes my stomach turn. I, personally, will ‘ refrain from purchasing lottery tickets specifically for this reason. The second item to which I must protest is the . setting aside of educational funds for lunch pro- . grams.
