DOW, LAKELSE Lakelse Valley lost another old time settler on August 2nd, when William Benjamin Dow passed away in the Prince Rupert general hospital. Mr. Dow was borti’ in ‘Pacific ‘township, ‘|near Portage City, Wis., on September 15, 1861. spent his‘ boyhood days on the farm, and as a young man farmed in his native. state and in the State of New York. Later in life he became attracted by city life and spent some years svorking in connection with core making operations in pipe foundries. During this period he held various ex- ecutive positions, especially with the the personnel of the firms with whick he worked. In 1911 he moved to Maid stone, Sask, where he homestcaded, proved up his place and when he left tte come to Terrace in 1924, accompan- ied by his son Harold, he bought Jand from Ed. Michaud in Lakelse Valley, and shortly after. secured another tract half a mile nor th west of the vil- lage, For ao oniunber of yeurs he devoted his enervies to growing fruit and vege- tnbles heing especially successful in producing high quality’ potatoes. In the spring of 1930 he left for the enst, made a‘trip extending over two and & half years, during which time he cov- ered much of the United States, later returning to Maidstone, Sask. before returmming home in November 1932. For some time the deceased has been in failing health, and on Sunday, July 29> had a sudden turn for the worse, and was tnken to the hospital the next day.
