THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM Igor Zahynacz DATE: June 15, 1992 City Engineer FROM: Anne T. Pynenburg PROJECT: No.444 Project Technician SUBJECT: LANE MARKING ON SHAUGHNESSY AT PITT RIVER RD. RECOMMENDATION: Install 1 "No Right Turn on Red” sign (RB 17) at the intersection of Pitt River Rd. and Shaughnessy street as an indicator for Pitt River Rd. westbound traffic at a cost of $100.00. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: Alderman Keryhuk has noted that there is a problem at the intersection of Shaughnessy St and Pitt River Rd. The problem is that cars Waiting to tum right from Pitt River Rd. onto Shaughnessy St. are failing to yield to the eastbound traffic making left-hand tums from Pitt River Rd. onto Shaughnessy.(See map) This traffic flow is generated by an Advance Green light that legally has the right-of-way. The result of this confusion js possible accidents. There is also a portion of the east curb painted yellow to prevent parking along this section of road. SOLUTIONS: The following options will alleviate the problem. However, it should be noted that this intersection is scheduled for reconstruction/upgrading in 1993. At that time all factors will be considered. in the design of the intersection. The suggestions listed in Option 1 could be considered at that time. Line painting may also be included in several other projects scheduled for the next few months. This will make the cost of line painting less when combined with other City projects.
