February 23rd, 1981. Alderman Wright advised that the Kinsmen Club of Port Coquitlam had recently donated $1,000.00 to the local library to enlarge the Canadiana Section. Moved by Alderman Wright: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That the congratulations and thanks from Council be extended to the Kinsmen Club of Port Coquitlam for their recent donation of $1,000.00 to extend the Port Coquitlam Library's Canadiana collection. Carried. Alderman Keryluk referred to the attendance this evening of many striking City employees and he advised that he missed them at their places of work. Alderman Keryluk advised that he would not be attending Council - “meet ings for the next few weeks due to medical reasons. Alderman Gates referred to the proposals of the Urban Transportation duthority to provide commuter rail service from Vancouver as far as Port Coquitiam and he advised that in his opinion an extension at least to Maple Ridge was essential. Moved by Alderman Gates: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That appropriate enquiries be made concerning the extension of the proposed commuter rail facility from the proposed Port Coquitlam Terminus to Maple Ridge and that the appropriate authority be urged to take such action immediately. Carried. Prior to passage to the foregoing resolution the Cit: Engineer advised that the location of the commuter rail station would be the present CP Rail station. and that the UTA were looking to have the main commuter parking lot located in the District of Coquitlam. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Gates: That representatives of the Urban Transit Authority be invited to attend a forthcoming Council meeting to explain the commuter rail proposal to the Council.
