September 8th, 1975 Alderman Ranger suggested that some improved type of directional signs to the City's Recreational facilities should be investigated and members of Council generally agreed that this be undertaken by the Public Works Committee. Alderman Mabbett advised that the Hyde Creek Centre was unofficially opened today and that he hoped the public will participate in using the various facilities featured at the Centre, such as the new indoor swimming pool, etc. Alderman Mabbett further advised that a letter of invitation to attend the official opening of the Centre offering a choice of two dates, namely October 18th and October 25th, had been sent to Premier Barrett and as soon as a reply is received from him signifying the date most convenient, invitations to others will be mailed. Alderman Mabbett stated he understood the road to the Schinz property was to be barricaded off; however, he noted this had not yet been done. Alderman Mabbett requested the City Engineer to investigate the feasibility of installing one or two additional street lights in the vicinity of the Coast Meridian Road-Birchland Avenue intersection. Carried. Alderman Keryluk voted against the resolution. Alderman Thompson advised that the Planning Officer is attempting to arrange a meeting with the District of Coquitlam's Planner with respect to the Regional Town Centre designation and the Planning Officer advised that the District's Planner first has to obtain permission from his Council to participate; however, it is hoped the meeting can be held on Thursday, September 18th, 1975 at 9:30 a.m. Alderman Traboulay then gave notice of a motion he intended to submit to ban stump burning in the City of Port Coquitlam, and he referred to the smoke nuisance caused by land clearing presently underway at the Nu-West development site on Cedar Drive.
