March 3rd, 1975. the reply received from the Minister, dated January 22nd, 1975, advising that he had met with the Premier on January 14th and stated his assurance that the Federal Government will do everything possible within the sphere of its jurisdiction to improve the outlook for gas exploration and relative activities in B.C. Mayor Campbell then pointed out that the motion of Alderman Keryluk was redundant as the action he proposed therein had already been taken. Alderman Traboulay commended His Worship the Mayor on his report, and stated he thought the Council would be remiss if they did not speak up and express their disappointment in the Budget. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: Whereas the fiscal year of Municipal Governments does not allow them to present a deficit budget; Therefore the Provincial Government be urged to increase the per capita grant by $7.00 per capita and recover this amount from gas royalties expected to be forthcoming. Carried. Alderman Traboulay then commended the Public Works Department on the new street signs with numbers on them and stated he thought they were very attractive. Alderman Traboulay stated he was very pleased to learn that the teacher-pupil ratio in School District No. 43 has been reduced to 19.2. Alderman Ranger then reported on his trip to Victoria accompanied by Mayor Campbell, the City Administrator, and the City Engineer, and advised that they had discussed the Coquitlam Hospital with the Department of Health with respect to design, location and services; the dyking programme with the Department of Water Resources; the Lougheed Highway re-construction with the Department of Highways; and the question of revenue to municipalities from exporting natural gas and the proposed amalgamation study with The Honourable J.C. Lorimer, Minister of Municipal Affairs.
