Japanese Intern As the manager of Wildrice I have been approached by an organisation that places individuals in intern-type situa- tions to promote cross cultural exchange/dialogue and a developing/learning situation for the individual. In this case it is a 26 yr old woman from Tokyo who wants to build on some experience of pottery in Japan and increase her English skills in order to go back & do some pottery teach- ing in English in Japan. She would live here completely independently, finding her own accommodation etc. There is a need to find "work" situations for her. These are of course unpaid and "free labour" to whomever she works with. We ( Wildrice) would only be in a position to make use of her for specific projects but I thought if others in the Guild are in a similar situation we might be able to cobble some- thing together, including one day a week at the Gallery... Burnaby Potters Guild has suggested that she could become a member with them and as such use the facilities at Shadbolt 3 days a week. I don't know if union restrictions would preclude having a volunteer helping at the Shadbolt, but I am exploring this option. This would happen in October and continue for a year. What do you think? Is it something that we or any individual wants to take on? | don't mind remaining the primary contact. Call me asap if you can or want to be involved or would like more infor- mation. Benefits: For organizing the show: no charge for 5x5 presentet’s space, which is a great way to make work- ing contacts with many new fellow potters, respect and admiration of all the presenters. If it sounds like a lot of work, keep in mind that a lot of the hard work in figuring how to make the show function has been done by all the volunteers before you. And besides, I'll be here to answer any questions you may have. If you are interested in this position or just would like to help out, please contact me or one of the board members. Without an administrator, we will not have a Made of Clay event. Jim Stamper (— > Made of Clay @ The Roundhouse Dec 3-5, 2004 There is still space available but hurry!!
