CITY COUNCIL is backing local liquor store employees
in calling on the province to freeze the privatization of
government liquor stores and other liquor policy reforms.

They're also endorsing a call for some kind of forum
or committee to investigate and listen to public con-
cerns. The request came from members of the B.C. Gov-
ernment and Service Employees Union, who said they'd
gathered a petition of more than 1,000 names in support
of their cause.

Councillors Stew Christensen, Carol Leclere and
Lynne Chrstiansen voted for the resolution.

David Hull and Marylin Davies were opposed.

“Fundamentally I’m opposed to government being in
business,” Hull said.

Hull did concede private liquor stores will likely offer
a different level of service and lower paying jobs for
workers, Store employees here fear the Terrace store

province over the next few years.
