Undefeated trio send ripple through pool ONE WAY TO guarantee you come home from a swim meet with your age group gold medal is to enter lots of races and win them all. And three Bluebacks did just that when the club visited the Queen Charloties for the Mas- set Eagles Spring Invitational. Liam Murphy set things in motion in the second event of the meet, cruising to victory in the 10 years and under 200m Free. Next into the pool were the 11-12 years girls with Julie Vanderlec taking that race, Two races later Marcie Pritchard demolished her 13 years and up opponents. That pattern was repeated throughout the meet, Murphy and Vanderlee winning 12 and Pritchard going 13 for 13 on the road to gold. For Murphy, the medal was a perfect way to end his days as a 10 years and under swim- mer. The Bluebacks dominated in the girls 11-12 years, Randee Armmnstrong chasing Vanderlee home in 11 events and win- ning the 80m Fly for overall silver. Meanwhile Judy Stevenson and Kaya Downs were locked in a battle for the bronze. Stevenson prevailed with a second and eight thirds while Downs completed the sweep of the top four spots with a second and five thirds. _ Justin Gillie provided the Bluebacks remaining medal, a bronze, picking up three wins and four runner-up finishes in Boys 11-12 action. Describing the meet as a lot of fun, assistant coach Josslyn Bagg said it was also notable for the high percentage of per- sonal best times recorded by the swimmers. But for one of the 17- member squad, the mect was anything but fun — she fell ill upon arrival and spent the weekend in hospital. For results, see the Score Board on the next page. Local rescue effort draws thanks Dear Sir, .The weekend of March 4-5 we had the opportunity to ex- perience Terrace’s excellent hospitality first hand. We bought a Bantam hockey team to your city for a series of exhibition games. Our return to Prince George on Sunday was interrupted by mechanical problems with our bus. In our time of trouble the services of several Terrace businesses stood out as being exceptional. We would like to thank all those businesses that went out of their way to make our extended stay comfortable and ex- pedited our return home, Hospitality such as this makes travelling an enjoyable experience. Once again our thanks to these fine companies and their staff, Jim Tiviotdale (Manager) and Grant Williams (Coach), Yours sincerely, — Prince George Kings, can’t Wait For Spring I Get Away Contest T can’t Wait For Sorin an't Wait For Spring ! They jabbed and chided him in hopes he would fly off the handle, get himself penalized and give the Stars a chance to win. A crowd gathered at one whistle stop and insults were hurled at Chelios, who seemed near the breaking point. "Chelios, you got no class,” taunted ane Dailas player. Then into the fray skated Bernie Nicholls, either acutely aware or completely oblivious to the war that was about to break out. He pushed his way to the middle of the group with a smirk and said, “Class, you don't need class to play this game. Look at Me.’ Players on both teams began to chuckle, Bamb defused. Bernie Nicholis is the best free agent signed in the NHL this season and may be one of the best all-time if he can help the Hawks to the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1961.
